Humanitarian missions are organized by a number of non-governmental organizations throughout the world to treat and care for the poor populations who have no access to even the most basic healthcare. Repairing a cleft lip, releasing a burn scar contracture, or treating a chronic wound are just a few examples of the great panoply of simple medical and surgical services that provide the biggest impact to those in greatest need.
More serious conditions such as congenital heart malformations, are managed in specialized large tertiary centres. In these cases, the child and his mother are transferred and fully supported via the charitable organization for the entire care period.
