BACKGROUND: Reshaping of the male chest following massive weight loss is challenging because of severe tissue ptosis. Standard surgical techniques are often inadequate to restore a normal shape with a good long- term outcome. In 2008, we developed a surgical technique to address post-bariatric gynecomastia, which involves harvesting an anterior intercostal artery perforator flap (AICAP) and a lateral intercostal artery perforator flap (LICAP). This technique allows for restoring shape and projection of the pectoral region while lifting the abdominal and lateral thoracic region.
The objective of this study is to assess long-term outcomes and patient satisfaction of this technique while describing its refinements over time, and to provide tips and tricks to perform it successfully.
