Each country has at least one academic health institution. Some are recent while others date back to the 18th century. These institutions had been known as the vanguard for medical discoveries that have affected and shaped the course of human history since decades.

University hospitals play a central role in scientific discovery and in shaping the world of tomorrow. Unlike other educational institutions, university-based academic health centres have the distinct privilege of integrating scientific research, education, and the practice of medicine in one setting.
